A simple hand finished frame

I made this simple hand finished frame for a portrait by local artist Ann Stoker (www.annstoker.co.uk). The frame was made of a simple ‘L’ shaped profile. Cut and joined before finishing in black with a gilt face.

This type of frame is normally used for art on canvas, however with a bit of lateral thinking I constructed a subframe to support the board inside the main frame, a 10mm gap was left surrounding the artwork to give the impression that the item is floating in space.
