What tools do I need to assemble the frames? A small hammer and a screwdriver is all that is needed.
Do I need any framing skills? No, no special framing skills are required, however a basic understanding of artists supports, such as canvases and boards might come in handy.
Are the self-assembly frames already painted? The majority of the frames we sell are sold ‘unfinished’ ie unpainted bare wood. This is the most cost effective way of buying frames. On some of the frames there are options to purchase frames painted or stained. See individual product pages.
What sizes do the self-assembly frames come in? Each sefl-assembly frame is made of two kits, one for each pair of sides. Each kit is available in a variety of standard imperial sizes with the equivalent size in mm. If you need a non-standard size, imperial or metric, select the size one above the one you need and enter the exact canvas size in the ‘bespoke’ box.
Can I frame a picture with glass using the self-assembly frames? All the lipped self-assembly frames are suitable for glass however due to problems transporting glass we don’t currently sell glazing on-line.
What is an inlay frame? An inlay frame, also known as a floater frame or box canvas frame, is a frame where the canvas is mounted in the frame from the front rather than the rear on lipped frames. These fames originated in the early 20th century with the rise of post impressionist and abstract art.
Why self-assembly? Self-assembly frames are the best value for framing art on canvas or board and can be made and transported in very large sizes. This makes good quality framing available to more artists.
What do I get in each self-assembly kit Each kit comprises two sides of a frame so you order two kits to frame your art. Each order comes with sufficient fittings and fixings to assemble the frame, mount/secure the canvas or board and hang the picture. No glue is provided.
